An American-style diner is proving a big hit on Hoults Yard.
2KNIVES bar and kitchen has a growing following of food lovers who can’t get enough of their unique burgers, pancakes and dessert pies.
The popular eatery also serves a range of keg and local beers
“We have our own smoker, we do our own butchery and we make our own special sauces,” said Dave Crann, who owns and runs the bar and kitchen alongside his wife Sophie.

“Everything we serve is super-fresh, we’re grinding our meat every day to make sure our burgers are as juicy as possible. We’re keeping our menu simple, with a number of core products that we do very well,” he added.
2Knives had a residency at a Tyneside brewery, but Dave and Sophie took the plunge and opened in the Pattern Shop Studio within Hoults Yard.
“For those who don’t know us, we produce our own burgers with meat and ingredients sourced from local suppliers. We also specialise in American dessert pies,” said Dave.
Dave runs his own electrician’s business while his wife has years of experience in the catering trade.
“We’ve always loved American-style food and 2Knives was our next step,” said Sophie.
Brilliant food and drink offerings
Charlie Hoult, MD at HyHubs, said: “Hoults Yard is a community, a destination and a place people want to be – 2Knives have bought into that and complement our growing number of brilliant food and drink offerings. These include Ghetto Golf, Proven Goods doughnuts, Studio28 patisserie and Full Circle Brewery and Taproom.”
2Knives offers seating for 36 inside and has seating outside for 30 more. The restaurant opens on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
“We’re attracting customers from the Yard and the wider Ouseburn area – and we’re also confident our old clientele will find us. We’re producing our core menu every day we open, but will also have specials on certain days to mix things up a bit and try out new things,” explained Sophie.
